Copiotrophic Bacterial Traits Increase With Burn Severity One Year After a Wildfire

چکیده

Wildfire and burn severity influence soil microbial communities during post-fire recovery. If differences in affect carbon (C) pool dynamics, altered could the transition of forests from C sources to sinks ecosystem For example, fire may change abundance copiotrophic oligotrophic bacteria, influencing kinetic rates pools due C-acquisition strategies nutrient requirements. We assessed bacterial kinetics 1 year after a wildfire mixed-conifer forest northern California, United States. determined whether were related versus life history strategies. Specifically, we community oligotrophy copiotrophy based on phyla relative abundances predicted 16S gene copy numbers. then these life-histories correlated with rates. further degradation metabolic pathways using PICRUSt2 kinetics. found that bacteria exhibited greater burned areas than unburned areas, evidenced by increases rRNA number taxonomic classifications. Furthermore, associated fast-cycling compounds increased severity, including carbohydrate, alcohol, amine pathways, suggesting In contrast, slow-cycling aromatic did not change, indicating increase. The rate active was positively pathway alcohol degradation, negatively like compound degradation. links between phylum-level life-strategy classifications ambiguous. Overall, our results suggest life-strategies are have short- long-term impacts persistence short-term, increase efflux via rapid cycling labile pools. However, over longer-term lower prevalence allow pyrogenic accumulate, increasing stable stocks.

Interacting disturbances : wildfire severity affected

Modern restructuring of agricultural landscapes, due to the expansion of monocultures and the resulting elimination of non-crop habitat, is routinely blamed for rising populations of agricultural insect pests. However, landscape studies demonstrating a positive correlation between pest densities and the spatial extent of crop monocultures are rare. We test this hypothesis with a data set from 1...

SQUIRE after one year.

DEVELOPMENT OF SQUIRE—THE IMPERATIVE FOR SCHOLARLY PUBLICATION Gaps in the quality of healthcare, characterised over a decade ago as a chasm, continue to demand systematic resolution. Local improvement initiatives are essential to better, safer care of patients, but the spread of such local improvement widely to other settings requires the scholarly publication that has always resided at the he...

A predictive model of burn severity based on 20-year satellite-inferred burn severity data in a large southwestern US wilderness area

We describe and then model satellite-inferred severe (stand-replacing) fire occurrence relative to topography (elevation, aspect, slope, solar radiation, Heat Load Index, wetness and measures of topographic ruggedness) using data from 114 fires > 40 ha in area that occurred between 1984 and 2004 in the Gila Wilderness and surrounding Gila National Forest. Severe fire occurred more frequently at...

This paper presents META-SHARE (www.meta-share.eu), an open language resource infrastructure, and its usage since its Europe-wide deployment in early 2013. META-SHARE is a network of repositories that store language resources (data, tools and processing services) documented with high-quality metadata, aggregated in central inventories allowing for uniform search and access. META-SHARE was devel...

Statistical Forecasts of Western Wildfire Season Severity

Strong associations between observed climate anomalies at lags of one season to years in advance and normalized area burned in the western U.S. wildfire season have recently been described using a newly compiled comprehensive gridded western regional fire history (Westerling et al 2001b). Earlier studies of fire scar dendrochronologies and local fire histories have demonstrated that large-scale...
